The UEFA Nations League 2020/21 was the second draw in the history of this tournament. The organizers divided it into three phases, which stretched over almost two years and will end just before the 2022 World Cup. The first stage will be group games, which will be held from September to November 2020 inclusive. The second stage – the final part is tentatively scheduled for June 2021. The playoff playoffs are the third stage, so far scheduled for March 2022.
The organizers of the tournament divided 55 teams into four divisions A, B, C, D. So in the first three divisions there will be 16 teams, each of which in turn is divided into 4 groups. In "D", the weakest, there will be only 7 teams that are divided into 2 groups, one has 3 national teams, and the second has 4. In the group stage, each team in the group will play each other home and away. The winners of the groups in the "A" division advance to the final stage of the tournament, where there will be two semi-finals, a final and a match for the 3rd place. The winners of the other groups go up in the ranking, and those who take the last places in league groups A and B go, on the contrary, down in C, D.
There will be six rounds in the group stage, which will start in September 2020 and end in November of the same year. The first two rounds will be held from September 3 to 5, 2020 and from September 6 to 8, 2020.
